Bihar govt to provide free eyeglasses to all villagers above 50
The plan has been drafted by the Social welfare department
PATNA: The state government in Bihar has planned to hand out free eyeglasses to all villagers above 50 and facing eye problems.
The initiative will help some 80 lakh people across the state.
A senior Social welfare department official told the local media that the department has drafted the plan to provide free eyeglasses to the poor who normally ignore their eye-problems.
Authorities said normally the people above 50 years face eye-related troubles and require eyeglasses but the poor ignore for various reasons. So the government has decided to help those people.
“We have planned to provide free eyeglasses to the poor after proper eye check-ups. We have already drafted the plan and sending it for obtaining government’s consent soon,” social welfare department’s director Raj Kumar told a local media on Thursday.
Authorities said the villagers suffering from eye-related problems will be given eyeglasses after proper eye check-ups at government-run centres.
Those facing serious eye troubles will be handed out glasses instantly whereas those with minor troubles with be provided within a fortnight.
