Bihar voters brave 44 degree C to turn up at polling booths in penultimate round
The sixth phase of polling being held on eight LS seats of north Bihar
PATNA: Voting began on a peaceful note in the penultimate round of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar on Sunday with voters lining up before polling booths in large number since early morning to finish off the task quite early in this unbearable summer when mercury has touched 44 degree Celsius this summer.
The sixth phase of polling is being held on eight Lok Sabha seats of north Bihar which include Vaishali, Sheohar, West Champaran, East Champaran, Valmikinagar, Gopalgnaj, Siwan and Maharajganj.
The entire area where the polling is being held today is also known as “Bhojpuri belt” since Bhojpuri is the main language spoken in this region.
Election Commission officials said the around 5 percent polling was recorded in the first hour of voting which began at 7 in the morning.
The polling is a major test for the ruling NDA since all the seats are currently held by either BJP or the LJP. On most of the seats, the contest is straight, which is a major worry for the NDA. Narendra Modi wave is also missing this time.
Experts say the initially euphoria noticed among the masses over the air strike on Pakistan terror camps too has vanished as the issues like unemployment, slowing economy, inflation, social security, farmers distress have taken centre-stage.
In the beginning, the BJP tried hard to keep the masses engaged in issues like Pakistan, Vante Matram, beef, Rajiv Gandhi’s “corrupt” dealings and JeM chief Masood Azhar but the focus has now shifted from the issues.
