Corrupt Jharkhand official arrested taking bribe a week before his marriage
The official was accepting a bribe of Rs9,000 from a villager
PATNA: Anti-corruption Bureau sleuths on Thursday arrested a government employees while accepting a bribe of Rs9,000 in Jharkhand. The arrest took place barely a week before his marriage was to be solemnized.
The arrested employee Amalendu Kumar was taking bribe from a villager when he was caught red-handed. He was posted as deputy inspector (Revenue) with circle office at Chandil in Saraikela-Kharsawan district.
Officials said the arrested employee had sought a bribe of Rs25,000 from a local villager when he reached the office for mutation of land with all the relevant papers.
He refused to help the villager without money although he had submitted all the documents. Subsequently, he registered a case with the Anti-Corruption Bureau which soon laid a trap.
On Thursday when he was receiving the bribe of Rs9,000 as his first installment, the anti-corruption sleuths caught him red-handed and forwarded him to jail.
Incidentally, the marriage of the arrested employee was to be solemnized barely a week later on June 21 for which wedding cards had already been distributed among the guests.
Only last week, the anti-corruption bureau sleuths had arrested a corrupt road construction department’s executive engineer from Patna in Bihar, who loved to sleep on a bed of currency notes.
He was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs14 lakh (rs1.4 million) from a road contractor. During the raids, the sleuths recovered Rs2.36 crore (Rs23.6 million) from his house.
