Former JD-U legislator Sunil Pandey acquitted for lack of evidence in Bihar court blast case
PATNA: A local court in Bihar has acquitted former JD-U legislator Sunil Pandey in the court blast case in a huge relief to the controversial legislator.
The district court in Bhojpur acquitted the former lawmaker on Saturday for want of evidence in the case. Pandey was of one of the persons made accused in the court blast.
The local administration had beefed up security arrangements in the court in view of the judgment but much to Pandey’s relief, he was acquitted by the court.
“This is the victory of justice,” Pandey told the media outside the court.
Pandey, a criminal-turned-politician, faces more than two dozen criminal cases, as serious as murder, kidnapping and extortion.
A local court in Bihar has already sentenced him to life for kidnapping of a Patna neurosurgeon Dr Ramesh Chandra. The doctor was kidnapped in 2003.
The court, however, convicted eight persons in the connection with the January 2015 court blast case in which one woman was killed and three others were wounded.
One of the persons convicted by the court was Lambu Sharma, who has been infamous as “Bomb Man” in the crime world.
The court will decide over the quantum of punishment to the convicts on August 20.
