Indian police official demands Reebok shoes as bribe, suspended
PATNA, INDIA: A police official in India’s Bihar state is facing departmental inquiry after he sought a pair of branded shoes as bribe from a man.
The police department in Bihar state initiated action against the police official Pankaj Kumar after he was accused of seeking shoes of a branded company for his son in lieu of settling a land dispute case. The said official is posted with a police station in Patna, the capital of Bihar state.
“We have taken the matter very seriously and suspended the police official for this act,” Patna’s senior superintendent of police Garima Malik told the media on Monday.
Reports said a man had recently reached the police station in the weekend seeking police help to solve a case related to the land dispute.
“When I sought help from the police, the official sought a pair of shoes for his son. Later I purchased the shoe from the Reebok company and gave it to the police official,” victim Shatrughan Yadav alleged.
However, the police official failed to solve his case despite grabbing the bribe and it was then that the whole matter came to light.
During initial inquiry, the matter was found to be prima facie true, prompting the police department to initiate departmental action against the accused official.
