PATNA: Is Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar inching closer to the RJD once again?
The million dollar question is being debated in the political circles after the Building Construction Department (BCD) secretary Chanchal Kumar, considered very close to the chief minister, gave “clean chit” to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in the bungalow row yesterday.
BJP leader and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi had repeatedly accused Tejashwi, younger son of RJD president Lalu Prasad, of indulging in wasteful expenditure and turning his bungalow into a seven-star hotel but the BCD secretary said just the opposite on Friday.
“There is no limit to expenses on minister’s bungalow as such. Though the expenses on bungalow were a bit high but was were done under the norms,” BCD secretary had told the media on Friday.
Very strangely, Sushil Modi has strongly contradicted the BCD secretary’s claim saying no “clean chit” had been given to Tejashwi by the state government so far.
The move is being seen as a sign of growing warmth between the previous two Grand Alliance partners although the JD-U has rejected it.
Previously, the RJD had strongly backed the JD-U’s demand for granting Special category status to Bihar although the BJP leaders have not been so enthusiastic in supporting its ally’s demand.
The issue came back in public domain again when the chief minister raised it during a meeting of the Niti Aayog held in the Delhi last week.
