Jharkhand professor arrested two years after his controversial beef post
The professor was arrested shortly after the BJP returned to power
PATNA: A professor has been arrested and jailed by the police in Jharkhand well two years after he had written a controversial post over beef saying he wants to throw a beef party.
Jeetrai Hansda, then working as an associate professor with Graduate College in Jamshedpur, had written the post on May 29, 2017, according to media reports.
His post triggered strong protests in the College after which the College administration terminated his services. This was followed by registration of a case against him.
Since then he had evading arrest. Media reports said some five months back, he had joined the Jamshedpur Cooperative College and had been teaching the students.
The police finally arrested him from a hotel in Sakchi, well two years after they had registered a case against the professor.
But what is more surprising he was picked up barely 48 hours after the BJP returned to power with huge majority in the Lok Sabha polls, intellectuals said.
“The professor was arrested from a hotel in Sakchi on Saturday night,” Sakchi police station’s officer-in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh told the media on Monday.
