PATNA: Bihar opposition leader and RJD lawmaker Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday launched possibly the heaviest attacks on CBI official Rakesh Asthana now under fire in a bribery case for allegedly saving the scamsters in the multi-million Srijan scam in Bihar.

It was Asthana who had grilled RJD chief Lalu Prasad, father of Tejashwi,  in multi-million fodder scam in 1997 and it was his investigations which ultimately led to the jailing of former Bihar chief minister. Prasad is currently in Ranchi jail in the same fodder scam cases.

“Did Rakesh Asthana save Nitish Kumar from 2500 Crore Srijan Scam in lieu of switching from GA (Grand Alliance) to NDA? CBI haven’t arrested main culprits of #SrijanScam yet. CM siphoned off 2500Cr from state treasury to Srijan NGO account,” Tejashwi has alleged in his tweet.

The scam involves alleged transfer of government funds to the account of a Bhagalpur-based NGO in Bihar.

As of now, the scam is being investigated by the CBI but even a year after the country’s premier investigating agency took over the case, the main accused in the case are yet to be caught, it is alleged.

Last week, in an unprecedented move, the CBI booked its second-in-command Asthana, on the allegations of receiving a bribe from an accused probed by him in a case linked to meat exporter Moin Qureshi.

The investigating agency registered the case against Asthana on the basis of a complaint from Satish Sana, facing probe in the 2017 case allegedly involving meat exporter Moin Qureshi, alleging the officer had allegedly helped him to get a clean chit, media reports have said.
