Man convicted for murder after 45 years gets life imprisonment
BHAGALPUR COURT IN BIHAR TAKES SO MUCH TIME WAITING FOR AUTOPSY REPORT
A man who was convicted for murder well 45 years after the crime, has been handed out life imprisonment by a local Bhagalpur court in Bihar.
The court of justice Mahesh Prasad Singh in Bhagalpur district on Wednesday sentenced to life Chaturanand Chaudhary for the murder of a local villager 45 years ago, additional public prosecutor Mohammad Reyaz Hussain told the media.
The judgment by the Bhagalpur court comes near five decades after the murder had taken place in Bihar as a result of conflict over irrigating agricultural land.
The murder had taken place in eastern Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on April 28, 1974 but the case lingered for so long as the court continued waiting for autopsy report of the murder victim for close to three decades. Yet the report didn’t come.
Ultimately, the court delivered its judgment on the basis of the statements of seven prosecution witnesses who corroborated the murder charges against the accused.
Reports said the wait for autopsy reports wasted a lot of time in the case.
“Locating the autopsy report wasted a lot of time in the case yet we didn’t get in the end,” Hussain has said.
As per the report, the court waited for 28 years to get the autopsy report but failed to have it.
