Moments after garland exchange, groom killed in celebratory firing in Bihar

PATNA: A soon-to-be married groom was killed in a celebratory firing in Bihar on Monday night shortly after garland-exchange ceremony had been completed.
The incident took place at Vijapat village under Danapaur block in Patna district last night.
The marriage of Satyendra Kumar had been fixed with Poonam Kumari after which a wedding procession reached the house of bride on Monday night.
Reports said while the groom was heading towards the wedding venue after completion of garland exchange ritual, his elder brother fired from his pistol to celebrate the occasion.
The bullet, however, hit the groom who sustained serious injury. The profusely-bleeding was rushed to the nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injuries soon, media reports said.
Celebratory firings have been claiming many lives in Bihar every year. As pr reports, some 15 people have died in such firings in the past six months.
