Muslim women beaten up, tonsured, paraded in Bihar for resisting molestation bids
The incident took place in Vaishali district which incidentally is represented by a woman in Parliament
PATNA: A Muslim woman and her young daughter were badly beaten up and paraded through the streets in Bihar after they had their heads tonsured, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place at a village under Bhagwanpur police station in Vaishali district which is represented by a woman parliamentarian Veena Devi of the LJP.
As per the complaint registered by the victims, they were alone in their house on Wednesday evening when a group of co-villagers made their forcible entry inside and tried to molest them.
“When we protested their attempts, they assaulted us badly and made us paraded through the village streets after getting our heads shaven,” the victim women told the local police.
Acting on their complaint, the police have arrested two persons including the barber who was hired by the accused persons get the women’s heads tonsured. Both the victims and the accused persons are from the Muslim community.
“We have arrested two persons so far while raids are on to nab the remaining absconding accused persons. They will be caught very soon,” Bhagwanpur police station in-charge Sanjay Kumar told the local media on Thursday.
The Bihar State Women Commission has taken cognizance of the incident and has announced to visit the site for further inquiry into the incident.
“I strongly condemn the incident. I will visit the village soon to conduct an inquiry,” Women commission chairman Dilmani Mishra told the media on Thursday.
