The incident took place in Supaul district
PATNA: An old woman was tied to a drum and assaulted by some influential villagers in Bihar after she protested capturing of her land.
The incident took place at Durgapur village which falls under Raghopur police station in Supaul district in the weekend.
Reports quoting local media said an influential villager encroached upon the land Sujan Devi, 60, and was constructing boundary on her land when she protested.
This infuriated the influential villager who along with his family members assaulted the woman and then tied her to a drum in the open courtyard.
In the meanwhile, it began raining after which the accused persons covered her with a jute sack but this failed to protect her from rains. She remained covered with drenched sack for hours.
Reports said the accused also beat up her husband when he tried to save her. Subsequently, he reached the local police station and reported the matter to the police. It was then that the police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman.
“We have registered a case and arrested two persons in this connection,” a local police official Nagendra Kumar said.
Last week, a similar incident had been reported from Samastipur district where a Muslim villager and his daughter were tied to a tree and assaulted by some influential villagers just because they had opposed grabbing of their land.
