#PatnaFloods: How Bihar’s prominent BJP face Sushil Kumar Modi falls from grace

PATNA: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, at one point of time, was the most trusted voice of the common men in Bihar. He was often seen staging sit-ins, organizing protest marches and holding Press conferences over the issues of common masses.

That was Sushil Kumar Modi’s daily routine while the BJP was in the opposition and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Lalu Prasad was on the throne of Bihar.

Post NDA’s coming to power, it has been a different story now. Modi whom the masses trusted the most has now become the target of attack. The people are now openly blaming him for ditching them in distress.

A very unusual scene was witnessed on Sunday when angry residents of Rajendra Nagar, a posh locality in the Bihar capital, protested outside the ancestral residence of Modi, now deputy chief minister of Bihar, for leaving them in lurch when a large part of the state capital remained flooded in water for close to 10 days. Quite many of them were Modi’s own neighbours.

Owing to angry protests on the streets by the residents of the state capital, the state administration had to make heavy deployments of police force outside the residence of the deputy chief minister to prevent any possible untoward incident. This was for the first time the residents from the posh localities had taken to the streets against Modi.

“Even after rains had stopped, he didn’t take any note of us or asked whether we were dead alive,” they alleged.

His neighbours are especially angry at the way the deputy chief minister along with his family members  fled his flooded home on a NDRF boat but didn’t offered any help even out of minimum courtesy.

According to them, Modi didn’t even pay attention to the repeated fervent appeals of his neighbours seeking help. “He didn’t even look back at us,” they complained.

Angry residents also shouted slogans like “Sushil Modi down, down” and demanded serious punitive actions against the officials responsible for the flooding and subsequent heavy water-logging in the areas.

The common residents are straightway blaming the BJP for the Patna flooding. According to them, all the three important departments, such as urban development, health and public health and engineering departments are held by the BJP ministers.

Apart from them, Patna mayor Sita Sahu is also from the BJP but now the BJP people are blaming officials for the unprecedented Patna flooding and water-logging, they mocked.
