Police arrest BJP MP’s son for assaulting wife, mother under influence of liquor in ‘dry’ Bihar
The accused of son of BJP MP from Gaya Hari Manjhi
PATNA: Police in Bihar have arrested son of a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Hari Manjhi after he assaulted his wife, mother and children under the influence of liquor. Hari Manjhi is a BJP Member of Parliament from Gaya Lok Sabha seat.
Police said Manjhi’s son Rahul Kumar was beating his wife with belts at his residence in Gaya on Friday morning when his mother came to her rescue. In a fit of rage he also beat up his mother.
Police said the accused who was under the influence of liquor also assaulted his pregnant sister and little children when they tried to rescue them.
Acting quickly, the police have arrested the accused while the seriously wounded women have been admitted to the local Anugraha Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital.
“During the medical examination, the accused was found having consumed liquor. We have arrested him and are forwarding to jail soon,” the local deputy superintendent of police Ranjeet Kumar Rajak told the media on Saturday.
According to the police official, accused wife had alleged in her complaint petition that the man had been assaulting her since her marriage in 2014. She has alleged her husband had always been consuming liquor.
Wife beating under the influence of liquor is quite common in Bihar and apparently that was the reason chief minister Nitish Kumar imposed total ban on liquor in the state.
Strangely, the state government in Bihar has imposed total ban on consumption and sale of liquor in Bihar since April 2016 yet the liquor flows unabated in the state.
The incident has confirmed Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav’s allegation that liquor consumption goes on as usual in Bihar despite the total liquor ban.
