PATNA: A man in Bihar was beaten up badly and then served poison-mixed water as a punishment for falling in love with a married woman, media reports said on Sunday.
The horrible incident took place at Santhali Tola locality under Rautara police station in Katihar district in the weekend.
Reports said Tala Marandi, a resident of Purnia district, had fallen in love with a married woman. On the fateful day, both were caught by the villagers in an intimate position.
Subsequently, the youth was tied to a tree and beaten up badly by the local villagers, leaving him critically wounded.
Finally when the victim sought for a glass of water to drink, the accused served him water mixed with poison as a result of which he died on the spot, witnesses told the local media.
The police have registered the case and begun investigation. “The police are conducting raids to nab the absconding accused persons,” a local deputy superintendent of police Hari Mohan Shukla told the media on Sunday.
“Honour killings” have become a matter of serious concerns in Bihar and dozens of such cases are reported every year in the state.
