PATNA: Former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi is asking the voters to vote for a woman candidate who is wife of rape convict Raj Ballabh Yadav.
Vibha Devi who is wife of Yadav is a RJD candidate contesting from Nawada LS seat in south Bihar.
Yadav fielded his wife as he is disqualified from contesting elections after he was served life term in a rape case.
“I appeal to all to vote for Vibha Devi. Her husband has been implicated in rape case and sent to jail just to tarnish the image of Yadav community,” Rabri reportedly told an election rally in Nawada on Thursday, playing the caste card.
The RJD candidate is contesting the elections for the first time as her husband is barred from contesting polls.
The RJD had earlier suspended the party legislator Yadav soon after he was convicted by the court in rape case but has now given ticket to his wife.
Yadav has been convicted for raping a minor girl at his residence.
The RJD is contesting on 19 seats this time and faces the pressure to perform in the absence of party chief Lalu Prasad who is in jail.
In his absence, the party campaign is being launched by Rabri Devi and her younger son Tejashwi Yadav.
