Schools shut in several Bihar districts in view of heavy rains alert

Authorities have ordered for closure of schools in several districts of Bihar in view of prediction for heavy rains.
The alert for heavy rains has been issued for next 72 hours in several districts that include Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Sheikhpura.
Amid prediction for heavy rains by the meteorological department, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on 27/09/2019 held an emergency meeting with the officials of disaster management and water resources department, and ordered them to be on extra alert.
Officials said heavy deployment of rescue and relief teams has been made and adequate numbers of boats have been arranged in the districts where alert has been issued.
The chief minister said the whole of north Bihar could face flood fury if the prediction for heavy rains proved true.
The chief minister also asked the authorities to be on alert in Patna reminding them about the flood situation in 1975 and 1976 when the floodwaters of Punpun river had entered several villages,
According to the chief minister, this year Hathia nakshatra is starting on Saturday and “the general belief is that if the rains start on Saturday, it continues for next three days”.
