PATNA: An old lady was raped by a youth in Bihar, sparking wide condemnations from all quarters. The incident has comes as a rude shock to the masses since this was perhaps for the first time that such an old woman fell victim to lewd desires.
As per media reports, 80-year-old woman, a resident Nawada district, was alone in her house when a 22-year-old youth forcibly entered her room on Monday evening and allegedly raped her. He fled the scene after committing the crime.
On Tuesday, the woman rushed to the local police station and registered a case against the accused person. Acting swiftly, the police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
“We have arrested the accused while the victim is being sent for medical test,” a local police official Babita Rani told the local media on Wednesday.
She added the police were trying to record the statement of the victim woman before the court so that the accused could be punished.
The incidents of rape have flooded the state in recent years.
As per an official report, a total of 1,304 incidents of rape were reported till October 2018. In 2017, a total of 1,198 incidents of rapes were reported, followed by 1,008 incidents in 2016, 1,041 in 2015, 1,127 in 2014 and 1,128 in 2013.
Similarly, 927 cases reported in 2012, 934 in 2011, 795 in 2010, 929 in 2009, 1,041 in 2008, 1,122 in 2007, 1,083 in 2006 and 973 in 2005—the year when chief minister Nitish Kumar came to power dethroning 15 years of Rashtriya Janata Dal regime promising to establish “rule of law” in Bihar.
