Speeding truck ploughs through wedding function in Bihar, eight killed

PATNA: At least eight people were killed and four others were critically injured when a speeding truck ploughed through a crowd of revelers enjoying a wedding party in Bihar late Wednesday night.
The incident took place at Halsi market in Lakhisarai district shortly past midnight, turning the atmosphere of happiness into grief.
Reports said a wedding procession had reached the house of Nakat Manjhi from nearby village Gardi-Vishumpur.
The guests were enjoying the wedding programme when the speeding truck ploughed through the crowd, killing seven on the spot while another succumbed to injuries at the local hospital.
Angry villagers later put up road blockade seeking compensation for the victim family. The blockade was lifted after each victim families was given Rs20,000 compensation.
The police have seized the truck while the driver has been absconding.
