Stray bullet kills poll official, voter dies of heart attack during sixth phase polling in Bihar

PATNA: A polling official was killed while a voter died of heart attack during the sixth phase of polling in Bihar on Sunday even as 50 percent voters cast their votes till 4 PM despite scorching heat.
Police said a polling official was killed after a stray bullet fired from the rifle of a security personal deployed at a polling booth accidentally hit him in his abdomen.
The victim identified as Shivendra Kumar, a teacher, was instantly rushed to a government hospital but succumbed to his injuries soon. The incident took place a polling booth in Sheohar district on Sunday morning.
“The victim was setting up his rifle outside the booth when it accidentally went off. This is not poll-related violence but the accused cop has been arrested,” the local district magistrate Arshad Aziz told the media today.
Another shocking incident was reported from the East Champaran district where a 65-year-old man died of heart attack while emerging out of the polling station after casting his vote. The police have identified the victim as Vishwanath Shah.
Polling is being held on eight LS constituencies of Bihar in the sixth phase. All these seats are held by the NDA.
