Too horrible: 65-year-old man rapes seven-year-old girl in Bihar temple, arrested

PATNA: The stringent law awarding death penalty for child rapists has just failed to leave its impact as is evident from the rape cases taking place at regular intervals in Bihar.

In a horrible incident, a seven-year-old girl was raped by a 65-year-old man at a village temple in Bihar’s Bhojpur district.

The incident took place a couple of days back but came to light after the video of the incident went viral in the social media.

As per complaint registered with the police, the accused lured the Class II girl student playing in the portico of her house by offering toffees and took her to the nearby temple where she was raped.

Another youth accompanying the man also raped the girl and shoot the video of the entire act, the police complaint added.

“We have taken the matter very seriously and arrested both the accused persons,” Bhojpur district superintendent of police Sushil Kumar told the media on Wednesday.

A sudden spurt in incident of rapes and gang-rapes has become a matter of serious concern in Bihar.

The state has reported more than 7,200 rape cases in the past six years while such incidents have recorded an alarming rise in the past few months.

Last year, the Union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved death penalty for rapists convicted for sexually assaulting girls below 12 years.

The government also approved life imprisonment for gang-rape of a victim below 16 years. Yet this stringent law has failed to put a check on such incidents.
