Ruby, 19, lost her father last year as the entire responsibility of her marriage fell on the shoulders of her poor mother.

Let with no option, the widow subsequently approached the local Benipatti sub-divisional police officer Nirmala Kumari for help which she happily agreed. However, she told the widow to search for the groom.

Eventually, the police officer raised donations from the society to make the entire wedding arrangements—from selecting the marriage venue, decoration and fooding to reception—for the girl and even performed her ‘kanyadaan’, earning huge praises from the local villagers.

“I felt very happy to play the guardian of the girl and perform her kanyadaan,” the police official told the media today.

The girl turned quite emotional after getting such a huge support from the police official and thanked her a lot.

“I never dreamt of such a marriage when my father died,” the bride told the media today.
